If you have ever experienced racing thoughts, panic attacks, or persistent worry about the future, you have likely experienced anxiety, one of the most diagnosed disorders. Working together, we will focus on techniques that draw you away from the rumination and ground you in the present moment. We also have the opportunity to discover where your anxieties come from and address them through tools such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). We will work together as a team to identify how we will best strategize managing (and/or freeing you) from your anxiety.

While one possible image of depression is the inability to get out of bed, depression can also take the form of decreased attention, irritability, and difficulty making decisions. Psychotherapy treatment is a great choice for improving depressive symptoms. We will work together to address how to effectively cope with your depression, as well as how to proactively take actions that improve your sense of well-being.  We may use various modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, and EMDR.

Trauma may stem from events such as an invasive medical procedure or losing a loved one, but it can also look like not being accepted in school or growing up with emotionally immature parents. Trauma can have lasting negative effects on our body, mind and spirit. I offer my trauma clients techniques that are evidence-based and effective, such as EMDR. Unlike many modalities, EMDR does not require the constant retelling of one’s trauma, and instead uses a process to naturally rewire maladaptive trauma memories.

Instead of dwelling on what is wrong with our lives or the past, it is at times helpful to engage with life in a forward-thinking way. Often, clients come to me wanting their futures to be different than their present. I work within a solution-focused framework which allows us to develop concrete goals for your treatment and life.

Sometimes our thoughts are really skilled at tricking us. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a useful evidence-based tool to investigate our thinking and discover how this thinking impacts our emotional states and behaviors. We focus on how thoughts can be maladaptive and sometimes steer our emotions and behaviors in unhelpful directions. Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) is a form of CBT that focuses heavily on irrational thinking patterns. Using REBT, we explore events and the beliefs that result from these events. We also learn how your daily life is impacted by these negative and untrue thoughts. I will challenge your irrational beliefs in a compassionate way so you can achieve greater clarity.

Eye Movement and Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based framework used for trauma, anxiety, depression, PTSD, stress, and many other persistent barriers to achieving optimal mental health. EMDR taps into our brain’s innate ability to process difficult life events and rewire neural connections in a way that heals. After EMDR, you will still remember the previous traumatic memory/narrative, but it will lose much (if not all) of its power over you. Typically, EMDR works great for those who have “tried it all” but still have yet to find relief. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (such as tapping your knees or following eye movements) to ensure both sides of your brain are online to process. Even though it might sound a bit “woo-woo”, this modality has undergone extensive study. It is both efficient and effective in processing memories, weakening negative beliefs, and strengthening positive ones.
